For my social media etiquette project, I chose to focus on James Charles's first public altercation that took place in 2019. This altercation was between Tati Westbrook and James, which first began over a SugarBearHair promo that James had posted on his Instagram story. James Chales is a beauty influencer who has maintained a strong fanbase and community despite the allegations made against him. He is also the owner of his makeup brand called Painted which many individuals applaud the products he has released. Tati and James were close friends who would frequently release videos together on YouTube, sometimes with fellow beauty influencer Jeffree Star.
After James posted the promo for SugarBearHair, Tati released at 40 minute video making multiple allegations against James Charles. The sole reason why this video was made was that Tati was upset and felt betrayed that James would make a promotion of her (at the time) rival for hair gummies. After this video was released, James lost millions of YouTube subscribers and was "cancelled" for these allegations. However, about a week after Tati's video "bye sister," James created a video debunking these allegations and slowly but surely gained his following back. Since 2019, James has been involved in multiple situations involving drama, and the most serious and recent allegation was accusing him of talking to multiple minors.
